Did you know that regular deodorants and antiperspirants contain chemicals such as Aluminum, Steareths, Parabens, Triclosan, Propylene Glycol, and TEA/DEA. This may not scare you, but it should! Each one of these chemicals can cause serious damage to your body and disrupt your body's normal function; prohibiting your body's natural ability to heal. What are these? How do they affect you?
Aluminum is a chemical that is used in antiperspirants. Aluminum stops the body from sweating and therefore prevents the body from releasing toxins. It is an estrogen mimicker which may cause hormone imbalance and lead to hypothyroidism, endometriosis, and has been linked to Alzheimers and cancer, as well. Aluminum is not excreted from the body (requires heavy metal detox) and continues to build up in the body over time. It is safe to say that ridding yourself of Aluminum from your deodorant, and other products that you use, is a good idea!
Steareths are used as an emulsifier which keeps the ingredients in deodorants and other body care products from separating. This chemical causes endocrine disruption, developmental/reproductive toxicity & skin irritation.
Parabens are a preservative added to cosmetics. It has many side effect ranging from skin irritation to endocrine disruption. It is linked to learning disabilities, immune system dysfunction, and developmental disorders.
Triclosan is classified as a pesticide. It is used to kill bacteria on your skin. It is known to cause abnormal endocrine system/thyroid hormone signaling and weakening of the immune system. Children exposed to antibacterial products at an early age have an increased chance of developing allergies, asthma and eczema.
Propylene Glycol is a known skin irritant at very low levels. This chemical can cause damage to your nervous system, heart, and liver.
TEA/DEA are known carcinogens which have been banned in Europe. They cause damage to liver and kidneys.
This is seriously scary stuff! Many, like me, have learned the hard way by getting sick and having to battle our way back to health. Lucky for you we make Pit Balm with just 4 ingredients, which are all safe for your body and in fact every ingredient is edible (but we don't recommend you eat Pit Balm :)) ! Every batch of Pit Balm is made small, hand poured, and aloha infused.
